Overview

“Tailoring Teens for Success” (TTFS) is an 13-week character building and leadership development curriculum for girls (ages 11-16 years old). It designed to transform the lives of girls so they become self-aware, self-managed and socially competent. TTFS serves as Girl Talk’s core program.

Purpose of Program

“Tailoring Teens for Success” provides a safe space for participants to address adolescent issues such as self-esteem, friendships, emotions, body image, tolerance/diversity, social media, and financial literacy to name a few. The overarching goal of the curriculum is to help and/or further develop participant’s skills in the areas of self-awareness, social-awareness and self-management.

A parent component is also included in the program. Parents of curriculum participants are required to attend four Parent Workshops during the 13 week curriculum that assists them in forming academic and social partnerships with their children.

Goals of Program:

“Tailoring Teens for Success” is a 13-week curriculum designed to:

  • Increase self-awareness (stronger sense of self)

  • Increase self-management (adapt and open to change; improve interaction with others)

  • Increase social competence (able to connect and lead with others)

  • Increase level of future orientation (increase interest in college or trade school)

Individuals and companies are welcomed to continue sponsoring a girl to participate in the curriculum program. We thank you in advance for your generosity!

Your $200 contribution supports one girl’s participation in the “Tailoring Teens for Success” (TTFS) curriculum that includes program materials, snacks, graduation keepsakes and field trip(s).

  Teya Robinson   Tailoring Teens For Success (TTFS) Co-Lead and College Tour Lead. A North Carolina native, Teya has been engaged with Girl Talk for two years. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Information Systems and Operations Management. Currently employed as a Business Systems Consultant at a major financial institution. She has a deep passion for volunteerism and serving the community.

Tailoring Teens For Success (TTFS) Co-Lead and College Tour Lead. A North Carolina native, Teya has been engaged with Girl Talk for two years. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Information Systems and Operations Management. Currently employed as a Business Systems Consultant at a major financial institution. She has a deep passion for volunteerism and serving the community.

  Jamila Perry Harley   Project Lead for Tailoring Teens For Success (TTFS). Jamila began volunteering with Girl Talk Foundation Inc as a general volunteer in 2016. Her passion for the organization came from her own experiences growing up painfully shy. Given her background in corporate and servant leadership, and passion for empowering young girls she wanted to strengthen her commitment to the organization and became the Project Lead for TTFS in 2017. Jamila is a Rehab Director for a national rehabilitation agency and is a licensed and practicing Speech-Language Pathologist. She is a native Charlottean and resides in Charlotte with her husband.
